Against the backdrop of rapid advances in the field of artificial ligaments and repair materials and ever-growing clinical demand, China has established a remarkable clinical and research advantage in this field. To consolidate resources and lead a systematic upgrade of the industry, on May 29, 2026, riding on the momentum of the 22nd IFOSMA & 3rd "Fusion of Wisdom and Innovation" Joint Conference, the Founding Conference of the Cross-Regional Chinese Artificial Ligament and Patch Research Societywas grandly held in Wuxi. The birth of this cross-regional, cross-disciplinary professional academic organization marks a key step for China in building a strategic collaboration platform and driving overall development in this field.
The founding of the Society is rooted in the internationally renowned clinical and research foundation China has built in this field. The founding conference was guided by the principle of "leading the next generation of artificial ligament and patch research and clinical practice", with the core goal of fully completing the Society's preparatory work and planning the blueprint for establishing the higher-level "China Artificial Ligament and Patch Research Institute" (CALPI) in the future. This initiative will further consolidate China's development foundation in this field, establish its academic leadership and industrial voice worldwide, and make strategic preparations for the subsequent establishment of an international artificial ligament research organization.

Huashan Hospital, Fudan UniversityProfessor Chen ShiyiFrom the perspectives ofleading clinical and research advantages,、global technology development trends,、domestic standardization needs,、and the necessity of correcting industry perceptions,he elaborated on the background for establishing the Society. He emphasized that the core mission of the Society is to unify technical standards, standardize clinical practice, carry out professional training, and integrate national industry-academia-research-medicine resources to promote technical standardization and clinicalnormalization and the internationalization of Chinese standards, thereby consolidating China's technological leadership in this field.

Speech by Professor Chen Shiyi
Shanghai Medical and Health Development FoundationSecretary-General Zhang Lingyipointed out that the founding of the Society is an important measure to respond to the national strategy and promote medical innovation and the translation of achievements. She highly affirmed Professor Chen Shiyi's foundational contribution as the "Father of Chinese Artificial Ligaments", and noted that although artificial ligaments and patches have urgent clinical demand and broad development prospects, they still face multiple challenges including breakthroughs in core technologies, unification of industry standards, and industry-academia-research-application collaboration, making it urgent to establish a national authoritative platform to pool development forces. The Society's purpose of "academic leadership, technological innovation, achievement translation, standardized promotion, and public welfare services" is highly consistent with the Foundation's philosophy. In the future, the Foundation will continue to support the Society's work in technology breakthroughs, standard formulation, talent cultivation and achievement translation, jointly promoting high-quality development in China's artificial ligament and patch field and better benefiting the people with innovative achievements.
